Starting August 31, 2009, all students with individual network accounts will be required to accept the Seattle Schools’ network use agreement electronically when they first log on to the Seattle Schools’ network and when there are changes to the agreement. Board Policy 2022 and Board Policy 3540
Failure to accept the agreement will prevent students from accessing the network. Students that use generic accounts to access the network will continue to be required to sign a paper version of the network use agreement.
Issues to note:
- The Internet Access Agreement does not require a parent or guardian signature.
- Electronic acceptance of the agreement will be logged centrally, so schools are not required to keep additional paperwork. If a student doesn’t accept the agreement they will not have access to the network.
- Only students that use generic accounts to access the network need to sign paper versions of the network use agreement. The paper versions of Internet Access Agreements should be kept in the building. As in the past, one form signed by a student is valid for the entire time that student is in one school. When the student changes schools, then a new form must be signed.
- For parents that wish to opt “out” of general internet access by enrolling their child into a restricted-internet configuration, please email cybersecurity@jmswierski.com.
